Artists in Schools

Cinnaman with a recent steel and copper creation "textured woman" this piece has been welded and  brazed together. She stands 1200mm tall and took around a month to complete.

Barwon Valley School was a successful recipient of an "Artist in School" program for term 2. Co-ordinater Shirley Drayton contacted local artist Cinnaman James to create an interactive percussive devise to be used during the school's music program every Friday.

Together Cinnaman and Shirley have devised a curriculum, with the help of the Artist in School funding, in which all school's students will be participating in some fun. Percussion fun, paper mosaics, meeting and talking with Cinnamam, looking at her artwork and a visit to the artist's studio near the Otways are some of the different elements the students will experience. Cinnaman's professional muso husband, Steve and percussionist, Greg Heart will also be holding a percussion performance/workshop in week 2 at the school.

At the end of the term the goal is to install the "Native Noise Machine" which Cinnaman will be welding and creating in her studio on a wall in the outside music area. The Lyre bird farm will have various percussive elements incorporated into the design. To compliment the sculpture students will be creating tiled mosaics along the native theme. These will be mounted around the sculpture. Also to compliment the sculpture Newcomb Secondary College students assisted by Jackie Scanlon are painting a native wall mural which will be displayed on an adjacent wall to the sculpture.
